ReachOut OC Community Response Delivered $655,000 to Orange County Neighbors in Need
The economic crisis continues to bring great challenges to thousands in our community. Many families have lost their homes or the ability to provide for their children. In March 2010, the Orange County Community Foundation launched ReachOut OC as a community-wide response to help our most vulnerable neighbors in need.
GOAL The goal of ReachOut OC was to deliver $500,000 to local nonprofits in four key service areas: Homeless Prevention – food banks and housing assistance Employment Assistance – back-to-work services and job support Mental Health Services – access to counseling and supportive services Health Care Services – community clinics and medical care programs
FUNDING The OCCF Board of Governors seeded the program with $250,000, which was then used to match every dollar contributed between March 5 and May 15, 2010. And with OCCF underwriting all program expenses, 100% of contributions were distributed to outstanding nonprofit agencies to help our neighbors in need.
RESPONSE The response to ReachOut OC was overwhelming, especially during a time of sustained economic crisis. With $655,000 in contributions received from generous donors and friends from throughout Orange County, the ReachOut OC community goal was exceeded by $155,000!
GRANTS On June 30, 2010, ReachOut OC grants were awarded to 40 local nonprofit organizations to help provide food, shelter, job skills and mental and health care services to our most vulnerable neighbors.
